Whale Watching Run in Sacramento Delta

Ok this was a last minute decision and short notice was given, but dam it was a
great ride.

We met up at 8:45am at the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza Parking Lot.   Melissa, Jonny
were already there waiting as I rolled in.  After drinking coffee and water we
decided it was about time to leave but I had to pee first.  When I returned from
peeing Aris had already arrived and was discussing the finer points of past rides
and other things like chrome and leather bags.

About 9:15am Aris lit a cigar and we rolled onto the hwy 80 freeway heading
north towards the Sacramento Delta.  The weather was sunny, warm and we had
clear blue sky's... it was going to be hot.  We were driving at a good pace getting
a feel for each other on the road.  Not many cars out for a Sunday with great
weather.  We crossed Benicia Bridge and pulled over to gas up somewhere after
Fairfield.  Yes I also stopped to pee again.

Melissa was so funny taking pictures and we got into a picture taking fight, I
think I won because my camera was faster.  Johnny, Aris and Melissa started
shedding clothing because it was already getting pretty nice out.  More coffee
and off we rode.

We arrived in Sacramento and quickly found a Local HOG group stuck at the
Am/PM Arco parking lot.  Even trying to leave a parking lot these guys acted like
sheep, what's up with that?  I yelled over "where are the whales" and was given
directions by one of their members.  Quickly we pulled out and left the HOG
group on their own to maneuver their way out of the parking lot.  I am not sure
how many point turn their actions equal to but it was a lot.

Riding into the sun we crossed the Delta and Melissa stopped a nice couple and
asked them where exactly are the Whales.  They pointed us into the right
direction and we were riding into a parking field within minutes.

This field was Hot!!, and getting hotter.  Already thousands of people were
parking and walking to check out the Whales.  We knew there was a mile or so
walk ahead of us and Melissa and Jonny brought plenty of water and Aris
brought a bag of Chips,  I drank coffee:)

Coffee is an amazing food, it's both a water,  a solid, a form of energy and has
like 5 calories per cup.  It can be drunk hot or cold and even chewed as beans
(covered in chocolate).

We arrive to see the people watching the whales, they were baking in the sun and
so were we.  The water was cool and helped cool us down just by standing beside
it.  And then it happened, we heard the sound of the whales as they came up and
breath.  They blew out air and took a breath and went back under.  Cool huh?  We
were stuck, checking out mommie and baby whale for a long time.  We walked out
further than most and found a great spot.  Melissa even found a floating board
and we all discussed sending Johnny out on as a raft.  We hung out and snapped
photos, took videos and made a few friends along the way.  A side note is there
were so many police officers, highway patrol and sheriff officers mostly sitting in
the shade or air-conditioned vehicles all getting paid to watch us watch the
whales.  Even helicopters these Whales draw a crowd!

Heading back to the bikes, sitting on the surface of the sun parking field we met
even more wonderful and colorful people.  One girl was funny because she was
yelling "I'm not walking a step further" to her boyfriend, before she walked
further... silly people.

Melissa and Johnny started to reorganize the saddle bags with all their stuff.
The more clothes they take off the fuller those bags get.  Turns out they have
His and Hers bags until one gets too full then there's a bleed over situation and
then bungee cords are involved... its all very organized. We all stopped and took
photos and got the hell out of there.

Aris suggested we head over to Old Sacramento for lunch... Wow what a Great
Idea!  As we got closer we discovered the other 20,000 people visiting
Sacramento were at the Pan - Asian Fair in the Closed off Old Sacramento.  We
parked our bikes and walked over and enjoyed the fair.  There was so much good
food and frozen slushies that tempted us, but we decided on an upstairs Mexican
Cantina.

Now Melissa is part Mexican and speaks fluently and ordered us up a killer lunch.
The waiter brought slow cooked pork, Margarita and Iced Tea's, meatball soup,
enchiladas, nachos and more.  Another Melissa fun fact is she even has this thing
about wrapping a tortilla with a flick of her hand and makes an instant taquito.

Lunch was great, sitting upstairs and outside on a balcony facing Main street in
Old Sac town.  It doesn't get much better.

After lunch we head down the Main Drag, walking on the old wooden Sidewalks
and checking out the shops.  It's very hot, and we get back to the bikes and
noticed that we are wedged in by other bikers.  I started mine up and did some
off-road action thru the woods & ivy and blazed a trail for Johnny and Aris.

We were on the freeway heading home, a nice slow ride home with friends.  We
stopped off for gas in Vacaville or Fairfield and exchanged phone numbers and
more photos and said our goodbyes.  I was planning to pull away in Oakland, while
Aris, Melissa and Johnny continued across the Bay Bridge toward South City.
Overall the traffic situation was easy, unbelievably easy for a Sunday afternoon
especially for Aris, Melissa & Johnny crossing the Bay Bridge.

Another Great Ride with good folks, looking forward to more to come.
