Almost everywhere I go people ask me “Dave, how can I get the awesome
thunderous horsepower and torque gains to make my Harley out perform
others”
The concept is simple; by allowing your motor to breathe better it will
perform better.
That’s where the balancing of modifications comes into play. No one
modification alone will give you significant increased horsepower. Rather
a combination of upgrades will give you the performance gain you are
seeking and if performed properly you will still retain reliability.
Branch Flowmetrics is a company I strongly recommend to any Harley
owner looking to get the long term reliable horsepower gains from their
bike. Jerry Branch (owner) is a freaking motorcycle genius and legend
known to all from the AMA Grand National Dirt Track, to the high banks of
Daytona Speedway.
From a bone stock Dyna Twin Cam 88 engine with a power rating of 63.6
horsepower, you'll get 100 plus hp using Branch Heads and Cams, Dyna
Ignition, a Mikuni HSR45 Carburetor, and a performance exhaust system.
That’s some serious power increases and correctly engineered for long-
term reliability.
His principal modifications are as follows:
Re-work your head for a better flow and compression, which means bigger
valves and better flow geometry. Next you’ll need a good set of matching
camshafts to increase your fuel delivery. And a larger carburetor to give
you the atomized fuel you will need. While your bikes all fueled up you’re
going to need a better ignition to ignite that higher volume of atomized fuel
now flowing into your motor. And finally all that spent fuel flow has to go
somewhere and that’s where your new free flowing exhaust comes in play.
Simple, right?
While a thunder header and a jet kit are fine for some, others hold a desire
and need to take their motor to the next level. And Jerry’s the man with
the plan!
